Greetings from SimTrainer Range!

Summer is quickly slipping into the fall. We hope all of you are doing well! The SimTrainer Tactical Training League is in full swing, and the next Reynolds & Reynolds league will be starting up soon! New training classes are getting cranked up…Gun Cleaning, Basic and Intermediate Tactical Rifle classes, and a new Shotgun class.

And, speaking of shotgun, SimTrainer will be sponsoring a trap next weekend at the 2010 GOP Family Trap Shoot. If you're available that morning, come join us for fun and great food - the Middletown Sportsmen's Club chef does a GREAT job, with a prime rib, baked potato and salad lunch! Bring your shotgun, a few boxes of shells, and your gear, or just come for lunch. More info at the Trap Shoot web page.

If you know someone who is getting ready to purchase a gun, be sure to let them know about the new "Try It Before You Buy It" program at SimTrainer. For only $25, they get a box of ammo, 20 min of supervised and guided shooting with a gun or two, and a $25 discount off membership or class fees...making this session effectively free. Announcement about T3 League this week

This email is principally about the Tuesday Tactical Training League this week, but also something everyone at SimTrainer should know about. Our guest on Shootin' from the Hip this week was Eric Deaton, candidate for US Senate. If you missed the show, it is posted on the show home page at http://sim-trainer.com/radio

Eric Deaton will be coming to SimTrainer this Tuesday evening to meet folks at the range, shoot at the league, and answer questions. If you haven't heard much in the media about Eric's campaign for US Senate, this is your chance to find out more about this candidate, meet him, and ask questions. You can also check out his web site at http://www.deatonforsenate.com and read some of his position papers on the issues to find out where he stands.

League members - to keep duplicate emails to a minimum, your names have been added to the main membership list as well. Feel free to follow the unsubscribe instructions below if you do not want to stay on this list.

Summer League

Normally, we announce league activities on the SimTrainer League email list, not the general membership list, but today is an exception. The summer league started with something a little different - Food! Last week we announced that there would be a snack wagon at the range for the league kickoff. The general consensus was that it was good eats! It worked well for the operator, too. He will be back this week, and will also be adding PULLED PORK to the menu. Come hungry!

If you have never participated in the Tuesday Tactical Training League, maybe tonight is the time to come check it out. There is no fee to come watch - just bring your vision and hearing protection. However, you may also want to bring your gear - many of those who came just to watch decided they'd give it a try. The league is open to members and non-members and is a great way to get regular practice behind your gun doing things that cannot be done in a stall during regular recreational shooting times - drawing from a holster, shooting and moving, shooting at moving targets, etc. We do recommend that you have some extra magazines or speed loaders - you should be able to fire up to 30 rounds without having to reload magazines or speedloaders. Most of the stages are less than that, but it helps keep things moving along if you can go at least that long without stuffing rounds. Most weeks require between 45 and 50 rounds, so you will be even better set if you have at least that mu
ch capacity. There is more information about the league linked to the range home page. If you are interested in shooting for the competition, there are still seven weeks left in the summer league session of which you need to shoot at least five to get a score. If you just want the extra opportunity to practice, come any time you can!

We will be off next week to allow the Concealed Carry class to have the range for their qualification course of fire, then be back on Aug 17 for Summer League Week 3.

Don't forget to catch Shootin' from the Hip on Saturday afternoons from 2-3PM on AM 1290 and 95.7 FM News Talk Radio WHIO. We only have a few more weeks left before the Dayton Flyer Football season bumps us off the air. Invite friends to listen in also. The more we can do to spread the word, the better. As we have seen all to well, elections have consequences - vote wisely!

New Course: Tactical Rifle (Level 1)

Tactical Rifle (Level 1) - $199

The 8-hour class is divided into two 4-hour sessions:

Thursday, April 22, 6-10PM - SimTrainer Classroom
Saturday, April 24, 9AM-1PM - Middletown Sportsman Club

This exciting new course will be taught by police and military personnel experienced in the tactical use of M-4 variant rifles. Course content will include:

Firearm safety
Weapon nomenclature
Functional operation of rifles
Loading, unloading and clearing malfunctions
Carry and shooting positions
Weapons zeroing
Use of iron sights and optics
Shooting proficiency
Cleaning, care and maintenance tips

This course is for those inexperienced in the operation of AR-15/M-4 variant rifles. Due to the high demand for this course, we will only accept the first 12 students who register and pre-pay by April 22. (Online registration not available for this class.) Confirmed registrants will be contacted with a list of needed supplies and directions to the training facility. You will need 250 rounds of .223 Remington ammo to complete the course. Intermediate and Advanced courses will be offered in the upcoming months. Please register and pre-pay at the front desk…first come, first served.

SimTrainer will provide a rifle for use in the class for $25. If you purchase the rifle used, the rental cost will be deducted from the sale price. SimTrainer also has .223 Remington ammo and cleaning supplies available for sale.

SimTrainer Activities Update

We don't have a Spring newsletter yet, but there are a few things to let everyone know about before the next one is published.

First, and most time sensitive, SimTrainer will be participating in the Dayton Liberty Week activities, particularly the Freedom Rally at the Nutter Center on Tuesday, April 13. Tickets are available for free but must be ordered in advance. Premium tickets are also available for purchase. Online ticket reservations must be completed by this Friday - April 2. Class schedules have been updated on the web site. In particular, the Total Personal Defense series for Spring quarter is now scheduled. The series will be on Thursday evenings starting April 29. Highly recommended for anyone expecting to be prepared for the spontaneous violent encounter whether you carry a firearm for personal defense or not.

Shootin' from the Hip! is back on the air! Join us Saturdays 2:00-3:00 PM on AM 1290 and 95.7 FM WHIO Radio. As always, you can still listen online from the radio station link or catch the archived shows on our web site show page.

This week's show will include a special in-studio guest. The First Shots Program Manager from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Cyndi Dalena, will be visiting SimTrainer for our Third Anniversary First Shots Marathon and will be on the air to talk about the program, maybe answer a few questions, and help us celebrate. Tune in at 2:00 to catch the whole show!

Be sure to check out the newsletter for all the latest information about the range improvements already in place and on their way.

By the way - range heat is working again...been a cold few days out there! Just in time for three First Shots classes tomorrow. The range will be open for recreational shooting except for 10-11:30 AM and 1:30-3:00 PM. However, there will be a LOT of cars parked in the lots. It will help if members could park around back or in adjacent lots to leave room for First Shots attendees.

Dayton Tea Party - SimTrainer @ 5:30

Just a reminder - Wednesday is Tax Day and Dayton Tea Party day. If you want to carpool with others from SimTrainer, be at the range for a 5:30 PM departure and we'll head downtown together. More information about the event is available at http://www.daytonohioteaparty.com/ and click on Event > Event Details. If you want, scroll down to the speakers list to Dan Rivers and click on the link to print the song lyrics to bring with you. Be sure to register for the event if you are coming and haven't already done so. At last count, nearly 7,000 people have said they will be there, so parking is likely to be scarce!

Fed Up Yet??

Yes, we realize this is an unusual message to receive from SimTrainer. Be assured that nobody has highjacked our private email list!

Many of us think we've been Taxed Enough Already! Here's an opportunity to get together on tax day, April 15, 2009, with a few thousand friends who have also been TEA at the Dayton Ohio instance of the Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party. In addition to clicking the link below to RSVP, reply to this email to let us know if you'd like to meet at SimTrainer and carpool downtown. Jeff is also looking into getting some quality signs made to take with us.

Location: Courthouse Square, Downtown Dayton at 3rd and Main

On December 16, 1773 citizens of Boston came together and protested the actions taken by the British Crown to support a company that faced bankruptcy due to mismanagement and corruption. We know this event today as the Boston Tea Party.

This event was one of many that eventually led to the declaration of our independence from Great Britain and the unfair taxation that was taking place at that time.

Today thousands of Americans are fed up with what we perceive as unfair taxation. Our federal government is taking money from hard working people in order to pay off mortgages and bail out companies that should be allowed to go bankrupt. Our elected officials are stealing our money and that of our children and grandchildren so that they can pay for tattoo removal and pig odor studies.

If you count yourself as an American, fed up with excess taxation and individuals like Chuck Schumer of New York spending your hard earned money on pork that you "don't care about", join us April 15, tax day as we send a message from the Miami Valley to those bankrupting our nation and stealing our money for their "stimulus packages" that contain "no pork".

Please join us on April 15, 2009 and make your voice heard. Protests are being held across the country. You are not alone with your frustration. Please click here and RSVP to confirm your attendance. It's very important that we know you're coming so we can pressure the media into covering us!

Tuesday Night Competition League

Hi shooters,

Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, is the first nite of the Autumn League. That night ONLY will be a late start. Range will open at 5:30pm, with set-up beginning then. Jeff Pedro expects to arrive by 6:30pm and will run that match himself. New league will focus on defensive shooting while emphasizing principles learned in SimTrainer classes. Though this is tactical based, speed shooters should still enjoy the challenges encountered. Expect stages that will accommodate the beginners yet challenge the experienced.

Winners from our Summer League are:

Limited: 1st Mark Avery
Limited 10: 1st John Grove
Production: 1st Bob Ensign
Production: 2nd Jerry Gentry

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Winners each receive a special IPSC target award pin (showing their place number) and a certificate to display.

Scoresheets from each league night are kept until after awards, then may be picked up from me within the following week. (After that, they get trashed.)

Scheduled League Dates: October 3, 17 & 24; November 7, 21 & 28; December 12 & 19, 2006.

League Fee is $12 per shooter for members and non-members alike. Please use TMJ/FMJ Clean-Fire Factory ammo only. Thank you.

A low-level light shoot has been requested. For safety reasons, only shooters who have received training in shooting techniques in low/no light environments may participate. Therefore, this will be a restricted match, and is to be scheduled AFTER the next low-level light class has been held. This will provide the opportunity for anyone interested to take the training required. The class is Handgun 4 and scheduled for Tuesday, October 31, from 6-9pm.
