New Range Hours

Notice to all members:

A tentative change to the SimTrainer Range open hours was included in the Winter Newsletter. Effective immediately, the new range operating hours are as follows:

M-W-F 5 PM - 9 PM
TU - 10 AM - 2 PM

TH - 10 AM - 6 PM
SAT 9 AM - 5 PM
SUN 1 PM - 5 PM

The new hours have extended Thursday afternoon to 6:00 PM and opened the evening for training classes. This will limit the number of times that the range will have additional closings on Saturdays. We will still have some First Shots sessions on Saturday which will use the range. This is an extremely popular program - we encourage you to invite new shooters to come experience the sport in a safe and enjoyable environment!

Last year, the NSSF First Shots program was a great success! We will be starting a new series of First Shots classes this year, including the first-anywhere First Shots Rifle in even-numbered months. First Shots is one of the best ways you can introduce new people to the shooting sports! These classes, along with all the 2008 handgun and personal defense classes, are now posted on the web site. As always, the current range calendar is available online.

US Concealed Carry Assn

As everyone probably knows already, SimTrainer has partnered with USCCA. What may be news is that the price for USCCA membership goes up starting June 17, so you have a little over a week to join at the current rates! If you join before the rate hike, your membership and renewals will be locked in at the current prices for as long as you keep renewing. If you sign up for membership at the range, you not only get to lock in the current price, the range also gets a small cut to help pay for improvements, training aids, and other benefits. The new rates haven't been set yet, but it will be somewhere between the current $69 per year for full access and $99, according to Tim Schmidt at USCCA.

USCCA provides some really great info to its membership through the web site and magazine. There are some sample copies in the range classroom. After you join, all past issues are available on their web site. That alone is worth the price of admission!

If you now have or ever plan to get a concealed carry permit, there will never be a better time to join USCCA!

This is a unique opportunity! LTC Grossman does only a limited number of these seminars each year, and only during the week. It is unlikely that he will be back to the Dayton area, or anywhere in southwestern Ohio, for several years. If you have a concealed carry license, plan to get one, serve in the military, work in law enforcement, or know someone who does, you must not miss this opportunity!

The purpose of this seminar is to provide participants with an understanding of the effects of psychological arousal upon humans faced with close range interpersonal aggression. Such an understanding can prevent or limit undesired physiological arousal and/or post traumatic stress disorder. Participants will also be introduced to the concept of stress inoculation as it relates to self preservation. Finally, participants will be introduced to a body of research on the psychological effects of combat and military violence and discuss the effects of violence on television, movies and video games on human aggression. An understanding of such research can help those faced with the likelihood of becoming involved in interpersonal violence better understand the dynamics of such an encounter and better perform under such highly stressful, rapidly evolving, ever-changing situations. Such an understanding will also contribute to early detection of potentially violent situations so they can be avoided or handled before they escalate.

LTC Grossman is the author of two best selling books entitled “On Killing” and “On Combat”, both of which will be available for purchase at the seminar.

Tuesday Night Competition League

Hi shooters,

Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, is the first nite of the Autumn League. That night ONLY will be a late start. Range will open at 5:30pm, with set-up beginning then. Jeff Pedro expects to arrive by 6:30pm and will run that match himself. New league will focus on defensive shooting while emphasizing principles learned in SimTrainer classes. Though this is tactical based, speed shooters should still enjoy the challenges encountered. Expect stages that will accommodate the beginners yet challenge the experienced.

Production: 1st Bob Ensign
Production: 2nd Jerry Gentry

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Winners each receive a special IPSC target award pin (showing their place number) and a certificate to display.

Scoresheets from each league night are kept until after awards, then may be picked up from me within the following week. (After that, they get trashed.)

Scheduled League Dates: October 3, 17 & 24; November 7, 21 & 28; December 12 & 19, 2006.

League Fee is $12 per shooter for members and non-members alike. Please use TMJ/FMJ Clean-Fire Factory ammo only. Thank you.

A low-level light shoot has been requested. For safety reasons, only shooters who have received training in shooting techniques in low/no light environments may participate. Therefore, this will be a restricted match, and is to be scheduled AFTER the next low-level light class has been held. This will provide the opportunity for anyone interested to take the training required. The class is Handgun 4 and scheduled for Tuesday, October 31, from 6-9pm.
